Day 2 with Teresa Ann:
UNITY OR DIVISION?
Upon yesterday’s reminder from Matthew 5 and Jesus revealing the Kingdom of God, I am reminded of the power we have to purposely obey and trust God especially in the midst of offense.
Here is an example told in the form of a scenario that could easily happen:
Perhaps someone comes up to you with a “concern” about someone you both know? So when I say a “concern”, I use that word lightly and loosely as in this scenario, instead of it being a seeming concern it was more of a ploy from the enemy to stir up division to uncover others through gossip, talebearing and even to gather information.
If this has happened to you, just answer this between you and Holy Spirit…did we shut it down or did we divulge?
As I think about this scenario, I have done both. At times aware and knowing I wouldn’t fall for the trap and other times falling weak to it. This alone makes me realize that at every given moment it’s another opportunity to fellowship with God. It isn’t about our strength in character and integrity – it’s so much more. It’s this being dependent on God Who IS Character and integrity; He is Strength and Dignity (Proverbs 31:25).
So let me go back to the scenario…if I would have unknowingly stepped into the trap, and then what I thought was privately and confidentially shared, what if it was used against me, then what?
It’s this unfolding of why I need God. For the first thing I would probably want to do is echo the “Father of lies” and point the finger while participating in the blame game as to why I sinned and focus more on how I was betrayed; yet if you think about it, betrayal begats betrayal.
How did I think it would be safe to share my angst of another person to someone else? The 100% full proof against this is to align myself with Holy Spirit, being in unity with HIM and pray for those people who I have an issue with; His compassion will break the hardness in our hearts as we just step out and trust Him. Holy Spirit waits to meet us as His compassion precedes the miracles. Miracles of even within our hearts and minds.
It goes back to being who we are as sons and daughters of God; being the salt and light no matter what.
Even in this written example, I am reminded of the Kingdom of God and how we as God’s representatives GET TO reveal Ephesians 4:29, “Let NO corrupt or foul speech come out of your mouth, but only that which is good to the use of edifying so that it may bring grace and peace to those who hear it.”
In all of that, the reminder today is that when we are intimate with GOD, the desire to speak against people, even in our “rightfully so’s”; those “rights” fade away, dissipate and dwindle into the backdrop as Jesus gets to show up on the scene yet again. In this intentional choice, we begin to desire to see what HE sees. We desire to see what God sees so that we can speak and sow seeds of life into those people and not allow the opinions of others or circumstances to align ourselves with sowing discord; instead we can sow peace.
REFLECTION WITH HOLY SPIRIT:
Matthew 5:9, “God blesses those who work for peace, for they will be called the children of God.”
How is Holy Spirit showing you where you can sow peace in a situation where there is discord?
Well here is our chance to ask Holy Spirit. What is He showing you?
You can write it down in a journal, or in the note section of your phone and if you’d like, feel free to share by commenting in the comment section below.
